Vitruvius — De Architectura

c. 15 BCE · Book · Public Domain

The only major treatise on architecture to survive from classical antiquity, written for the emperor Augustus and covering town planning, materials, temples, and machines. It gave the Renaissance its idea that building must unite firmness, commodity, and delight — and gave the world the Vitruvian Man.
