Question 1

What is the Babel Nexus Index?

Accepted Answer

A free interactive website — a hand-curated map of 53 subjects holding 823 unique label-and-year works across 853 gallery placements, laid out as connected rooms you click through instead of a search box and a flat list.

Question 2

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Accepted Answer

Levels I–III are free: no sign-up, paywall or login is required. Optional email updates require your consent. Purchases are available separately in the Level IV Bookstore.

Question 3

Will Babel Nexus ever charge for access?

Accepted Answer

No paid archive tiers are planned. The public-domain library remains free; purchases are optional in the Level IV Bookstore.

Question 4

How is it different from a search engine or Wikipedia?

Accepted Answer

A search engine hands you links; an encyclopaedia hands you summaries. The Index gives you the primary works themselves — the actual books — organised by the historical reasoning that connects them.

Question 5

Can I actually read the books?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Click any title and the full text opens free via Project Gutenberg, the Internet Archive, or Wikisource. No download, no account.

Question 6

What is the Nexus Oracle?

Accepted Answer

An AI research assistant that answers plain-language questions only from the works held in the Archive — every answer points back to real books in the collection.
