This is the first volume of Cao Xueqin's eighteenth-century novel, "Dream of the Red Chamber," in a translation by H. Bencraft Joly. The novel is considered one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature and offers a detailed portrait of Qing Dynasty society.
