Sigmund Freud — The Interpretation of Dreams

1900 · Book · Public Domain

Freud proposes that dreams disguise wish-fulfilments, moving from remembered manifest content toward latent thoughts through free association and processes he calls condensation, displacement, and secondary revision. The case histories and extensive self-analysis build a theory of unconscious conflict rather than a controlled experimental demonstration; psychoanalysis made these readings culturally consequential, but contemporary psychology does not treat the book’s interpretive method as established scientific fact.
