Ferdowsi's Shahnameh is an epic poem recounting the mythical and historical past of Iran from the creation of the world to the Arab conquest of Persia in the 7th century. It is considered the national epic of Iran and a masterpiece of Persian literature, preserving ancient Iranian folklore and history.
