One of the earliest printed collections of knitting, netting, and crochet receipts, written by an Edinburgh needlework dealer who helped standardise the written pattern. Gaugain pioneered the abbreviated notation that made instructions reproducible, a decisive step in turning craft knowledge into a shareable text.
